Why did you select your majors and minors? Were there any experiences that convinced you to declare?
I selected my major in English because I have a deep love for reading and writing, and I selected my film studies major because of my passion for film. I selected my minors in history and human rights and humanitarian affairs because I am fascinated not only with the past but also with how we construct our histories and how those histories impact the politics of activism. Finally, I selected my minor in women's and gender studies because, as a woman and as an activist, I think these human rights conversations are crucial to have and these ideas are often undertones of my own writing.
What is your favorite course you have taken from your programs and why?
One of my favorite courses that I have taken is Gender in Contemporary Society, as it delved into really interesting and important ideas and has helped me approach all of my other courses that discuss gender and sexuality in a more informed way.
Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
Some of my strongest mentors have been both professors that have helped me to improve my writing as well as other students at all different points in their undergraduate degrees.
Have you had an internship/job?
Throughout my time in college, I had internships with both the Nebraska Writers Collective as well as the Nebraska Writers Project in which I worked with high school students on their writing. My English major was especially useful within these internships as it helped me to communicate with the students different elements of writing and expression. In addition to this, I also had an internship with the Kara Eastman campaign as a copyeditor. In this case, I would say that, in addition to my English major, both my minors in human rights and humanitarian affairs and women's and gender studies were extremely useful in understanding the actual policies that Eastman supported and helped me to better communicate her goals.
What are you involved in on campus?
I am a member of the English Student Advisory Board where I work as a mentor for first-year students, and I was an editor for Laurus Magazine on campus throughout my junior year.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I will be working as a Product Copywriter for Spreetail, but I hope to soon attend grad school and work in higher education.
